Kampung Ayer
Kampung Ayer or Water Village is an area of Brunei capital city situated along Brunei Bay. People has been living here for over 1,300 years and now it has more than 30,000 villagers living in Kampung Ayer. Some people refer it as 'Venice of the East'. It consist of 4200 structures including houses, mosques, restaurants, shops, schools and a hospital. The structures here are built on stilts above Brunei river.
Visitors can take a tour around Kampung Ayer using the water taxi. The people living in Kampung Ayer are very friendly, hostipable and welcome tourist with open arms to their homes. While taking a tour around Kampung Ayer visitors can also visit other attractions such as 'makan di luba', 'jong batu' and probiscos monkey which is situated along Brunei river.
Muara Beach
Muara Beach has a long, quiet path which invites leisurely strolling and is ideal destination for family outing. It has amenities such picnic area, children’s playground, changing and toilet facilities, as well as weekend food and drink stalls. Public can also do activities such as volleyball and water sports here.
Jong Batu
Brunei has many legends, one of them is the 'Jong Batu'. It was said that Jong Batu is actually a sinking ship of Nakhoda Manis, a son who has betrayed his own mother. He ordered his crew to push his mother small boat away because he was embarassed that his wife was disgusted with his poor mother. His mother was then heartbroken and she cursed his son, a storm then came and capasized the ship, it sank and everything including the people inside the ship turned to rock.
Jong Batu is located at the Brunei River, on the east side of Istana Nurul Iman. The rock outcroping is a shape of a sinking ship and the size is about 20m long and 15m wide at its widest point. The journey to Jong Batu is about 15minutes by boat from the Kampung Ayer.
